A national organization dedicated to addressing forensic nursing issues in Canada and is an affiliated interest group of the Canadian Nurses’ Association. The FNSC strives to facilitate networking opportunities amongst Canadian forensic nurses, providing information on educational and research opportunities/findings, as well as acting as a liaison with other international forensic organizations.

Forensic nursing educational opportunities in canada
To become a forensic nurse, prospective individuals must first complete their bachelor’s of science degree in nursing and successfully pass the national licensing requirements. Once a registered nurse, individuals may pursue further educational programs or courses.

George Brown College, Toronto, ON
- Forensic Nursing Certificate – a continuing education program offered through distance education providing information on nursing interventions for responding to patients who have experienced violence and abuse. It is composed of four courses exploring topics such as introduction to Forensic Nursing, sexual violence, interpersonal violence, and clinical applications in Forensic Nursing.
British Columbia Institute of Technology
- Advanced Certificate in Forensic Science Technology (Forensic Health Sciences Option) - A program catered towards healthcare professionals in the field of forensic examination, covering the clinical management of victims as well as the recovery of evidence, and compliance and knowledge of legal aspects and standards of care, to ensure proper application of forensic principles.
- Bachelor of Technology in Forensic Investigation - Registered nurses can qualify for entry into this program which provides a theoretical foundation for nurses dealing with forensic investigation, covering both scientific and legal aspects of the work.
Humber College, Toronto, ON
- Ontario Graduate Certificate in Forensic Practice - Nursing graduates, as well as graduates from other professions associated with forensics, can obtain this certificate to further their education on issues and interventions surrounding child maltreatment, violence, and criminal offenders.
